Jumane Redway-Upshur was born and raised in Los Angeles. He graduated from Highland High School in 1997 and Pitzer College (Claremont Colleges) in 2001. When he was 18 years old, he was the winner of the game show “The Price is Right.”
Prior to graduate school at the University of Oregon, Jumane was a public-school teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District at Venice High School. He earned his MBA and JD degrees in 2009, working briefly after graduate school for Kaplan Publishing.
As a young man, he was involved in professional sports sales and marketing, working at the NFL Network and the Los Angeles Clippers. He also covered the NBA Finals as a journalist for BasketKorea.com.
In 2013, Jumane transitioned into working in the nascent, legal cannabis industry, becoming an entrepreneur. He served as the VP of Sales and Marketing at Dank Tank, one of the earliest cannabis vapor companies in existence. During his six-year period with the business, he oversaw the generation of $7 million dollars in total revenue as sales manager, with in-state distribution to almost 200 medical collectives.
In 2019, Mr. Redway became a social equity applicant with the City of Los Angeles Department of Cannabis Regulation. He is working with STIIIZY Cannabis to open a retail storefront in 2021. He currently serves with STIIIZY as a cannabis cultivator.
